Awesome questions Salena!
1. When we "met" you were in massage school. Now you want to go to school for natural medicine. What is it that attracts you so much to healing professions?I have this constant nagging to do something that will make a difference in the world and in peoples lives for the better. I have always had a keen interest in herbs. Massage just came naturally to me. And I am completely facinated by the human body and what it can do and how it works. Since becoming vegan I have developed a passion for learning about food and nutrition and how it plays such an important role in life. Society relies too much on drugs and surgeries that can be avoided, and I'd like to contribute to a industry that helps people return to a more natural state of good health. I'm thinking I will end up in Nutrition/Dietetics and use herbal medicine and massage to compliment my clinical practice. That way I have a firm base in approved science, and a fancy smancy degree, but can offer quality complimenary health therapies too.
2. Why is your icon flicking me off?Haha.. well this just goes to show my twisted sense of affection. I'm a cheeky bitch. Fuck you said with a smile generally means, "I think you're awesome!". This icon really sums up how I am with my closest friends in day-to-day conversation to keep things upbeat and interesting when they can get quite mundane. So take it as a compliment my icon is flicking you off!
3. What is your favorite vegan recipe?Wow.. there are so many! Because the weather is so hot here I am eating a lot of salad and salad/tofu wraps with a side of sweet potatoe oven baked fries.
My favorite salad would have to be strawberry and spinach/watercress salad with a drizzle of olive oil, apple cider vinegar and sesame seeds. Or rainbow coleslaw (red and green cabbage, shredded carrot, thinly sliced shallots, lemon juice and watered down vegan mayo with a bit of pepper).
Wraps generally include a piece of rye or barley flatbread, mixed lettuce, cucumber, fresh tomato, two thin slices of marinated tofu, vegan mayo and salsa. The fries are just sweet potato fries with a bit of olive oil, cumin powder, corriander powder and some pepper.
Since those aren't really recipes... I'll leave you with my favorite breakfast recipe! Scrambled Tofu, based on the PPK's recipe. I use burmese tofu in mine and pile on the fresh spinach and sauteed mushrooms and red capsicum! Oh, and less nooch. I'm not a nooch fan..
4. You've mentioned to me before that you've never really been satisfied with other pagans you've met in real life. Describe a fictional group of pagans with whom you would fit in well.
As in a group I'd like to worship with? Firstly... I think the group would have to be Norse focused, appreciate the usefulness of UPG and non-folkish, or racist. The reason for this is that I'd like a group of people who I would worship the Gods with from a similar angle, because I think it brings a closer sense of kinship in that kind of setting. People with good senses of humor and compassion for others, each with a different skill/gift they could bring to the group. That being said, I most of my practice would still be solitary, but I think you can learn different things from solitary and group styles of worship. I'd want to be a part of a group I could be good friends with outside of 'worship time' and a bit of socializing.
5. Why do you like body modification so much? This is the hardest question for me to give a satisfying answer to! Orginally, piercings/tattoos/stretching was something i found pleasing to my senses and I used it as a way to work through my fear of pain and needles. Now it's purely because I love the beauty of it, or the uniqueness of it... or in some cases the complete insanity of it! I find it interesting to see what people do to their bodies, and the reasons behind them.
